High Gun: Maverick raises $1 billion worldwide | Film

High Gun’s Gross Profits—Maverick
The film High Gun: Maverick has brought in 7.6 million euros in revenue to the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, the film has been viewed by about 660,000 people since its May 26 release. With little more than half coming from the US and slightly less than half from the rest of the world, director Joseph Kosinski’s film made $1 billion on Sunday. At about $2.8 billion, Avatar has become the top grossing film of all time. Avengers – Endgame ($2.79 billion) and Titanic ($2.2 billion) are the next highest grossing films.

The family of a journalist who penned a piece years ago that used as the basis for the film High Gun sued Paramount Pictures earlier this month. The journalist’s family is now requesting compensation from the film producer for allegedly failing to repurchase the story rights for the follow-up film High Gun: Maverick. In response, Paramount has stated that the allegations are baseless and that they intend to mount a strong legal defence.

Last month, the much awaited follow-up to the 1986 hit film High Gun made its European premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. The disobedient pilot Maverick in High Gun: Maverick receives a directive from his former comrade Ice (Val Kilmer), who is currently a general, to mentor a fresh group of airmen on a unique and perilous assignment. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller), one of the teenage pilots, is the son of Maverick’s late best friend Goose.

Tom Cruise was surprisingly unenthusiastic about working on the highly anticipated High Gun sequel. Director Joseph Kosinski claims that Cruise had to be persuaded to reprise his Maverick role.
