US Senator Lummis Reveals Bitcoin Buy Value As much as $100,000
Cynthia Lummis deposited bitcoin worth up to $100,000 in August.
The Republican US senator from Wyoming, Cynthia Lummis, recently revealed that on August 16, she bought Bitcoin (BTC) for up to $100,000. The transaction ranged from $50,001 to $100,000, according to the disclosures made on Thursday that were made public after the reporting period mandated by the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act. Speaking out, Lummis expressed her optimism for the biggest cryptocurrency based on market size. She previously stated to CNBC that she purchased her first Bitcoin in 2013 for $330 per coin and that, as of the end of June, she had five BTC.
“I want to see cryptocurrency, like Bitcoin, become a part of a diversified asset allocation which can be used in retirement funds and other opportunities for people to save for the future,” Lummis said in a June 2016 interview. The revelation comes a few days after a massive surge in the price of Bitcoin caused it to soar beyond $50,000. As of this writing, it is trading in the $54,000 range.
Lummis reported on August 9 that the US Senators were having some fruitful conversations over amendments pertaining to cryptocurrency. It’s been a fascinating day. The current situation is as follows: first, we have had extremely fruitful discussions with senators on both sides of the dispute. If revisions could be put to a vote, I believe the community of digital assets, or cryptocurrencies, would be pleased with the result, Lummis said at the time.
