Police Are Not Able to Identify The Voice’s Participants
The identities of those involved in The Voice cannot be revealed by the police due to privacy concerns. An online broadcast of the Boos programme last month concerning sexually inappropriate behaviour occurring behind the scenes at The Voice revealed the case involving the RTL 4 programme. Nineteen ladies related to filmmaker Tim Hofman their experiences with band leader Jeroen Rietbergen; fifteen spoke of a director; and two women said they had lodged a complaint against instructor Ali B. In the show, the prosecutor stated that one of those stories involved rape. In addition, there have been rumours of unethical groping involving Marco Borsato, the former coach. Numerous people who may have been sexually abused or subjected to unwanted sexual activity have come forward to the police in recent weeks.
The police emphasise, “Victims can still come to us with their story in the coming period.” We note that a wide-ranging social discourse over sexually provocative behaviour has commenced. Additionally, there is a movement underway as seen by the increased volume of calls to the vice squads. Not just victims in the vicinity of TVOH find their voice. The majority of calls are unrelated to that programme. This includes, for example, accounts of historical assaults, rapes, or sexual abuse.”
The police distinguish between complaints and reports. Generally speaking, a complaint can result in an inquiry by the Public Prosecution Service, although a report does not always result in a criminal probe. Following the publication of the report about The Voice, Rietbergen announced his resignation as band leader. The current partner of Linda de Mol said that he had engaged in “sexual” connections with programme participants. In the interim, Ali B. has resigned from his position and refutes the accusations. The director refutes the accusations as well; two women have already accused him.
RTL 4 made the decision to quickly take the show off the air and to launch a separate investigation with the producer.
