Police Alert Hyundai, Kia Owners to Joyriding Trend on Social Media
Police are alerting owners of Hyundai and Kia vehicles about a social media trend that incites individuals to pilfer certain make and model cars and share videos of their exciting drives. Concerns regarding the security of Hyundai’s well-liked electric SUV, the Ioniq 5, have been brought to the attention of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) through complaints.
The NHTSA reports that owners of Ioniq 5s in the United States have experienced a total or partial loss of propulsive energy. A lot of people reported hearing a loud popping sound before the electricity went off. Hyundai has responded by stating that it will provide a software update beginning in July and, if required, replace the impacted parts.
According to a warning published online, the NHTSA stated that it received 30 complaints regarding the problem with 2022 models, which are expected to be 39,500 on US highways. According to the agency’s early study, recharging may be involved in the problem. Transistors are harmed by the voltage surge, which stops the car’s 12-volt battery from charging.
Hyundai is initiating a servicing campaign in July to update the software in vulnerable vehicles, and a spokeswoman for the firm, Ira Gabriel, told FOX Business that the company is completely cooperating with the inquiry. Gabriel said Hyundai will change the Integrated Control Charging Unit, a specific component, if necessary.
