NEC Debut for Wilfried Bony Against the Go-Ahead Eagles
When NEC plays Go Forward Eagles at home in the KNVB Cup quarterfinals, Wilfried Bony might make his debut for the team. The striker is now part of the starting lineup after obtaining his work permit. After signing the Ivorian after two coaching days, NEC applied for Bony’s work permit on January 26. They had to wait two weeks for it to be granted till the end of the current season.
The Eredivisie final on Saturday was played away against PEC Zwolle (1-1) and Bony was unable to participate. Prior to signing with NEC, the former Vitesse player—who competed from January 2011 until the summer of 2013—was without a membership for a full year and a half. In November 2020, he was scheduled to depart from Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.
It’s expected that Bony will start the game against Go Forward Eagles as a reserve. On Wednesday, coach Rogier Meijer stated that while he isn’t physically capable of playing all ninety minutes, a replacement is readily available.
The NEC vs. Go Forward Eagles game kicks off inside Goffert Stadium today at 7 p.m. Danny Makkelie is the head referee of the sport. For the first time, the general public is welcome in Nijmegen (home of more than 4,000 season ticket holders) for the derby against Vitesse on October 17.
